Mwana

Mwana is an Angolan visual artist who works with photography and installation. In her photographic work, Mwana records the multiple dimensions of the individual being. Mwana portrays contemporary life with the intensity of a contrasting gaze. Through her work, she also presents a feminist examination of social roles, experiences, and personal stories. Her views are expressed mainly through documentary photography and portraits.
Pinturas de Luz, Benguela (2016) was her first solo exhibition. Recent exhibitions include Corpus Delicti (Resistance Corps), the Concurso Olhares Cruzados no Camões – Portuguese Cultural Center, Luanda (2021) where she was also one of the three finalists; TANGO – Sur la (Dés – ) Intégration des Temps, Kinshasa ( 2021); Women who Score, Luanda (2019); Mátria, Benguela (2017) and Artes no Cacimbo, Lobito (2014). Mwana´s recent work is a collaborative project on African art restitution commissioned by the Goethe Institute Angola in collaboration with the Humboldt Forum. Mwana is currently based and works in Porto, Portugal.
