And Others: The Gendered Politics and Practices of Art Collectives is a research project and a network initiated by Lina Džuverović, PhD in 2021, focused on an intersectional exploration of labour in collective practice. The project examines the inner workings and divisions of labour within contemporary artists’ collectives, seeking to highlight inequalities, forms of silencing and marginalising of certain voices. This international group of contributors has been involved in methodological experiments such as workshops, collaborative writing and interviews, including (to date) four panel discussions in association with Art Monthly magazine; participation in conferences in Riga and Lisbon, and Women in Revolt at Tate Britain, London. The project also forms the basis of a Curatorial Lab on the MA in Curating at Chelsea College of Art, London, inspiring further research by student curators. Seeking to develop a lexicon of collectivity, the network resists current reductions of collective practice to existing structures of individualism and competitiveness. The network is working on a forthcoming collaboratively edited publication, designed by Rafaela Dražić.
Members of And Others contributing to Hope is a Discipline are Ximena Alarcón-Díaz, Felicity Allen, Carla Cruz, Lina Džuverović, Fabiola Fiocco, Karolina Majewska Gude, Lily Hall, kuda.org, Helena Reckitt and Jelena Vesić. This contribution has been led by Ximena Alarcón-Díaz and Lily Hall.
