Lorenzo Balbi has been the director of MAMbo – Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna since 2017, when he took on the role of head of the Area Arte Moderna e Contemporanea of Istituzione Bologna Musei, today Settore Musei Civici Bologna, to which, in addition to MAMbo, belong Villa delle Rose, Museo Morandi, Casa Morandi, Museo per la Memoria di Ustica and Residenza per artisti Sandra Natali. After studying Conservation of Cultural Heritage at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, he specialised in Contemporary Art at the University of Turin. In the past 15 years, he organized and curated several exhibitions in Italy and abroad and his texts and articles have been published in various catalogues, books and magazines. Since 2018, he has been the artistic director of ART CITY Bologna. He is lecturer at Sistemi dell’Arte at the DAMS of the University of Bologna, Accademia delle Belle Arti di Bologna, IED and other institutions. He is a member of the Board of Directors of AMACI – Associazione dei Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani. Since May 2022, he was appointed a president of the Scientific Committee of the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna and of the Fondazione Scuola Beni e Attività Culturali, a president of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Lucio Saffaro.
