I have an idée fixe that both media and gender are systems of oppression, and that the natural subject of our life, death itself, is also oppressed, excluded from the public sphere and culture, which is preoccupied with only youth and health.
Therefore, I try to use this in my art. Also my historical training (with a focus on analysis and the discourse of historical memory – i.e. Memory Studies) helps me to work critically with how systems are conceptualised.
In my artworks I combine different kinds of digital media and drawings to make an installation in a conceptual/post-conceptual kind of way. One of my ways of doing this is through montage. I am looking for new meanings that arise out of the intersections of different media. This is a kind of dialectic where such a mix can give rise to an explosion of many different meanings.
